#5227: I went to the CCNY career center and it was quite discouraging to see the counselor almost laughing at my past academic decisions. I am not Asian but Ive always been interested in the chinese culture and language so I studied it for many years. I am not trying to pursue a career only focused on that considering that Im a political science major but I was also a foreign languages major and I picked chinese. At the end of the meeting she was looking at me like I was a desperate case, like a girl that walked into her office asking how to go on the moon. All I needed was advice and help in understanding how I can use the skills I developed, not to feel judged and rushed out just because you disagree with my life decisions. What kind of counselor does this? All I hope for my future is to not become like these people that work without passion or care for what they do but they only waste time waiting to finish their shift so they can go buy a new purse.
