5th Grade Iris and Frangipani Module 1 Title : Reproductive System Introduction. Reproduction is the ability of all living things to produce offspring of their kind. The reproductive system is the system which enables the human species to continue and the human population to grow. The male reproductive system differs from that of the female in structure and in functions. The male reproductive system is designed for production and transport of sperm cells. The female reproductive system is designed for childbearing. Rationale. The reproductive system enables living things to procreate. The male reproductive organs include the testes, scrotum, penis, urethra, prostate gland, seminal vesicles, epididymis and vas deferens. The female reproductive system is made of ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, urethra and vagina. Menstruation is the periodic breakdown and discharge of uterine lining, blood and unfertilized egg at the end of the menstrual cycle of female. Our reproductive system is very important . We should always take care of it. Standards. Life Science Evidence Outcomes. .Create and evaluate models of human body systems and organs. Instructional Objectives. Today, I will describe the importance of reproduction by sketching the male and female reproductive organs so that I can determine how body organs work together for reproduction. Explain how body organs work together for reproduction. Identify the parts of the male and female reproductive system. Construct a model of male and female reproductive system. Explain the process of fertilization in humans. Tell the functions of each part of the male and female reproductive system. Practice hygiene in caring for reproductive system Learning Activities. Read The Reproductive system on p. 27 – 31 ( Science textbook ) Acitivity 1 Human Reproductive System Sketch the male and female reproductive system and label the major parts properly. Male Reproductive system Female Reproductive system In tabular form, describe the structure and functions of the Human Reproductive system A. Human Female reproductive organs and its functions. Organs/Parts Functions B. Human Male reproductive organs and its functions. Organs / Parts Functions Activity 2. The Female Menstrual Cycle Explain the menstrual cycle through a time line. Identify and label its stages Describe what happens in each stage Sequence the events properly. Activity 3. The Fertilization Process Using a flow chart, discuss the production and pathway of sperm cells and egg cell as they leave the body. Sperm cells Egg Cell Explain how does a new life begin? What habits and practices can you do to help maintain your reproductive system healthy? What habits and practices do 11-year olds need to develop or improve on? ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ Make a survey in your family tree or in your neighbourhood.
