5th Ward Meeting Just an update, some of you were able to attend tonights meeting. It was a good meeting as there were the regular faces explaining the issues, but also a lot of new residents that had concerns over the development. Andrew Tsounis spelled out the progress of the proposal application. The JRPP (Joint Regional Planning Panels - jrpp.nsw.gov.au/) are looking at the original proposal that Darrell Lea applied with and the councils amended proposal. It was indicated that generally what the JRPP recommend in terms of height and FSR will be adhered to when making a decision at state level. There were a lot of residents that indicated that they have gone through similar battles on other developments and warned that it would be a long and difficult fight. However the consensus was that this development was totally unacceptable and something should be done. So some ideas came to light for the next few weeks. 1. We need to door knocking and get the community involved by: writing letters (to Rockdale Councillors, minister of planning, John Flowers etc) Petitions (more on that later) Dropping off flyers and generally assisting with staying involved and on top of the issues as they appear. 2. Write letters as above. 3. Approach local schools and business to get them playing a proactive role. 4. We must use social media to build up a good network, (If youre not on our facebook page get on it! And comment and like and refer onto your friends etc) We will need to develop some sort of action plan and get the points ticked off otherwise we are wasting valuable time. As we want a really good network before the community consultation stage occurs to really put our message forward. It was a very productive meeting and now we all need to get involved. I will send out a few emails with some ideas of how we can do that. For now if you have any ideas on getting better involvement and raising community awareness please email me so we can have as many options available to us.
