6/19/14 LAST STAND (2013). Ah-nuld is back! Yes, the Governator starred in this movie, and although its not his best work, its a likable action movie in which our hero plays an aging Sheriff in a modern-day Arizona town that is right on the Mexican border. So when a nasty drug cartel leader (Eduardo Noriega) escapes from the FBI, he heads to this border town to eventually complete his getaway in Mexico. But something -- or someone -- stands in his way. Yes -- Arnold and his few deputies. There are some great action sequences and a terrific car chase through a corn field; there are also some neat plot twists although the story is strictly good guy vs. bad guy, like a classic western, which this film in some ways is. To let us know that, there is a Gatling gun used in the film, and when the FBI show up at the end, one of the characters says, Here comes the cavalry! Not all is good in this film: the alleged comedy relief by the unfunny Johnny Knoxville is painful, as is his (seemingly) confused performance. And there are some really terrible lines of dialogue in the movie: Arnold tells villain Noriega My honor is not for sale! Thats a line weve heard only about 600 times before in other movies. So ultimately, the film is not great, but its a passable action movie, featuring a surprisingly likable Arnold Schwarzenneger. As a bonus, though, if you make it to the final creadits, youll hear a fantastic version of the blues song I Aint Superstitious by Carlos Santana and Jonny Lang. (Below: movie poster; FBI head Forest Whitaker; and Eduardo Noriega.) NOTE: PICS ARE IN COMMENTS SECTION. MY COMPUTER WENT NUTS . . . SORRY!
