6 Killed in DRC Plane Crash By: Our Reporter At least 6 people have died in a plane crash in the south Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The six were all crew members whose bodies were burnt beyond recognition. The Cargo plane is said to have crashed on Kafinda Mountain, 25 kilometers from Uvira City in the south Kivu Province. The Aircraft which according to DRC sources belongs to the UN had taken off from Bujumbura airport in Burundi. Territorial authorities in Uvira state that it had started its journey from Entebbe in Uganda and went to Congo Brazzaville before making a stopover in Bujumbura airport to refuel. However, the Antonov 4 ASS which was allegedly flying at low altitude struck the mountain before it ended in the forest and immediately caught fire, DRC military spokesperson Col. Olivier Hamuli says. The administrator of the territory of Uvira, Samuel Lunganga Lenga says that the authorities were working to ensure that the wreckage of the plane is retrieved from the forest as well as the black box. He says that the Police and army had cordoned off the scene of the crash to ensure that it is not tampered with before specialists arrive for analyzing what could have gone wrong.
