6 months ago, my buddy Wisam and I engaged in a discussion about how to help our people, how to preserve our culture, how to protect our homeland, and how to do it successfully. We were all too familiar with the old guard and their consistent problems with unifying the banners of our community. A little while after that, I came into contact with Johnny Oram, who is one of the most intellectually sound people I have come across. Johnny shared in the sentiment that Wisam and I spoke of. After that, I traveled to Washington as a bit of an amateur, under the guidance of established community leaders. It was then that I came into contact with Steve Oshana from A Demand for Action, a cheeky fellow, who decided that the protection of the Ninevah Plains and the Chaldean/Assyrian/Syriac people was priority number 1. Together, and with the help of our colleague and friend Derek Dickow, we decided that unifying key factions would only be successful once we proved what could transpire from that unity. After countless efforts from many, we were able to secure a meeting with Sen. Carl Levin, who gave us 90 minutes of his time at his Detroit office. We told him what we wanted, and he has delivered in ways we dreamed of. Once again, unprecedented news for our community. Wisam thanked nearly everyone below, but I would like to add Joseph T. Kassab and Sam Yono for their mentoring leadership along the way. And to my pops, Asaad Kalasho, who insisted that bigger work is always done behind the scenes and away from detractors. Doesnt seem like much, but this language is HUGE. Things are falling into place. Please see the language below in Wisams post. God bless. Long live Ninevah and all Suraya
