6 years ago, on this same date, I realized how badly is my India beseized by the enemies within. Shri Hemant Karkare going down because some corrupt officers had even bought fake bullet-proof vests was the confirmation of the bigger, deeper, dirtier terrorism of corruption having eaten my nation completely. The aplomb with which Barkha Dutt was going about providing coverage to the terrorirsts appeared clearly as if her mandate was to unleash the horror of terror inside every household across the nation. It confirmed to me that the other saviour and watchdog of democracy, the media, is suffering from a deep disease. The housing society I live in Mumbai is one where most of the MPs & MLAs live. The panic and the alert with which all the security gates were locked up showed their true colours. An old Maruti 800 was left carelessly by some young person outside the gate. Within 15 minutes a Bomb disposal squad sirens in and there are horrified, aghast pairs of eyes peeping out from almost every window of my building. Every tree-leave was shrieking in my building compound that this ruling elite is hollow. That these men & some women who are supposed to have been at the top echelons of Governance in my state & in my nation are far more vulnerable than me. The 4 demons who had beseized Taj that night, somehow for the next three torrid days did not seem to be the real Terror. Till this date, every frame of perception that rolled by my mind through those three days, keeps shrieking at me, the enemy is within & deep.
