60 yrs Of Mr Dave Bowen, (The early years) Happy Birthday to my oldest mate. Go back 55yrs, Dave lived in Southways Stubbington (UK) This is when we first met and became best mates. At the local infants school we had a gang consisting of Dave, me(terry), Dodge, Steve Futer, Mick Staples and Diane Bowring the only girl alowed as she was the toughest kid in school and protected us. We picked a different leader each week, but as Dave was the only one with a real "Zorro" cloak he got the job most (we put our coats round our shoulders) Dave lived next door to my Aunt and cousins (4 girls 1 boy) they were all older than us, it was our job to terrorise them (and Carolin) but usually ending up with a smart ear. As we got older things did not change much, one day when we were about 14-15 we sneaked around the back of his house and peered into the Conservatory with our noses pressed up against the glass, we were watching Carolin and Bob "Snogging" on the sofa, after pulling many faces we were seen and with Carolin on our heels legged it over the fence laughing. A bit older now we were part of the Stubbington "Mods" for those who dont know Mods were very smart dressers and rode Schooters, in our case Lambrettas. It was at this time when Dave and I were round my house, his schooter was off the road for some reason so he asked if he could borrow mine to pick up a mate, I did, when he returned back he had a Police car behind him, 6 weeks later we were in the Magistrates court, Me for aiding and abbetting, Him for riding a bike not covered by insurance for him, we were told by the magistrate at one time to "Stop Laughing in court" this was the fault of Daves Dad, when the magistrate told him "Mr Bowen you may sit down" he meant on the wooden chairs behind him, but Daves dad started pulling out the Velvet chairs linked with velvet rope running accroos the front of court, it was when the magistrate beamed "NO NOT THOSE CHAIRS" we started laughing. I could go on for hours but will spare you that. I just want to wish Dave a Very Happy Birthday and remind him hes 60 before me (By 13 days) xxxxxx
