61 Foreign Athletes Fly To Obudu -LOC Arranges Flight To Race Venue The Local Organising Committee for the 9th Obudu International Mountain Race and 5th African mountain running championships has announced that all the 61 foreign athletes comprising 43 male and 18 female athletes registered for this years event will be flown to the Obudu ranch resort, venue of Saturdays two-in-one race. The athletes, to be led by reigning world mountain running champion, Philip Kiplimo of Uganda as well as the defending men and womens champions, Abebe Dinkesa and Etenesh Dironeda are expected to arrive Lagos on Wednesday November 20 where they will be told of the departure time to Bebi airport in Obudu the next day. On arrival at the Bebi airport, according to the itinerary released by the LOC, the athletes will be transferred by buses to the Athletes camp at Utanga where accommodation has been reserved for them. The athletes are however expected to bring along with them their anti-malaria treatment certificate/letters. Athletes who are unable to provide this will however be tested for malaria before accreditation and assignment of accommodation. Meanwhile Nigerian athletes and officials participating in the race are expected to arrive Calabar on Wednesday where accommodation has been reserved for them before making the over four hours bus ride to Obudu on Thursday. The LOC says the local athletes will converge on the U.J Esuene Stadium as early as 07.00am on Thursday for medical screening and accreditation. The departure time from Calabar to the athletes’ camp in Utanga, Obudu has been fixed for 10.00am with provision for lunch break en-route.
