69 years ago yesterday, the US committed one of the most - TopicsExpress

69 years ago yesterday, the US committed one of the most HORRENDOUS acts of terrorism in all of human history: it NEEDLESSLY dropped a 15 kiloton nuclear device on the unsuspecting city of Hiroshima. Over 300,000 people died from burns, injuries from the blast, or radiation poisoning. 1,000s more would be permanently disfigured and blinded. Others suffered long term effects from radiation exposure like leukemia or genetic mutations. Many were experimented upon by the United States military to provide information for the next generation of war mongers in the event of a nuclear war with the Soviets. Virtually all historians agree that it was NOT AT ALL NECESSARY to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese were on the verge of surrender, and plans to simply surround and starve the Japanese out until they surrendered were scrapped when the Soviets declared war on Japan and invaded Manchuria. The only reasons why those bombs were dropped were because the US didnt want to allow further expansion of the Soviet Union and because it wanted to show the whole world, especially the Soviets, that it had nukes. The US collective punishment of 100,000s of Japanese civilians must surely be considering among the worst crimes committed ever. EVER. (Large chunks of this status were stolen from Justin Wobblydash)
