7/21/2013 1 Samuel 17:42-47 This Battle is not Yours My brothers and sisters, it’s a fact that we all have battles. It doesn’t matter how much money, prestige or education you may have, we all have battles. Someone sitting beside you may have a smile and praising but you can’t tell the severity of the battle they are fighting. People in the house of God can be insensitive to the problems of others, if nothing is going on in their lives, they just can’t relate to what you’re going through. As long as trouble isn’t knocking at my door, things are good on the job, my family is okay, and everything is good. Sometimes a simple good morning can brighten someone’s day. Sometimes people don’t need a lot of scripture; just tell them it’s going to be alright, “I’ve been there too”. Job 14:1 tells you Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble, which means between now and the grave, you’ll have battles. Maybe not today but sometime during the week, you’ll have a battle. I have Jesus to fight my battles. The morning maybe fine but by mid-day you have to call him. I’ve had to call him morning, noon and night. I’ve seen enough in life, to know I need him. I’ve fallen in my life, evil is always present. We should never underestimate falling, it’s more than young people, folks. Young people need to know we’ve fallen and made mistakes. Tell them I’m human, I’ve been in places, I shouldn’t have been. There’s a whole lot of scripture people say they don’t understand but there should be some scripture that is in your heart. Have you waited on the Lord for something and the Lord gave you peace of mind while waiting? Keep your mind on him; don’t worry about what he’s doing for someone else. He will give you the desires of your heart, delight yourself in him. I shouted when I read vs 46 which begin by telling me God will give victory in the midst of your battle. Many want to shout when they reach the summit, you have to spend time in the valley, which isn’t bad if you learn while there. Some people don’t want to associate with you, if you’re in the valley, it might rub off on them. God is trying to teach us to lean and depend on him, some folks you don’t want to have to depend on. While in the valley, God had taken Saul’s anointing from him. God had anointed him because the Israelites wanted to be like everyone else and have a king. God had been taking care of them all the time, when you’re a child of God, his hands are upon you and you don’t have to do what others are doing. You might seem like you’re getting a raw deal but God will continue to provide for you. The enemy will stay up all night trying to figure out how you’re doing all that you’re doing. When you keep begging him, God will let you have what you want. When he lets you have what you want, you’ll be trying to give it back. King Saul was good to look at but if the heart isn’t right that doesn’t matter. He was arrogant and disobedient. And he was fired by God. No matter how anointed, God can fire you. Goliath was a giant and he taunted the Israelites. No matter how they don’t look the part, don’t underestimate others. It’s not what you perceive on the outside, God was with David. David was anointed, just not yet appointed. God has our lives planned; you’ve got to learn how to serve before you supervise. Some of us forget we have to be humble. If God is in the plan, there’s nothing anyone can do, what’s for you, is for you. I got an appointment to a particular church and went to this association meeting, news travels fast. I got the appointment on Wednesday and the meeting was on Friday. Pastors were congratulating me when one asked “How in the hell did you get that church? I sent four resumes and didn’t get a hearing”. I told him you sent paper, I sent Jesus. David confronted his giant, when you know God is with you, you won’t be shaky in front of your own giant. Your giant can come in all forms, if you’re shaky, it gives the giant confidence. You can’t confront without confidence. Saul tried to give David his armor. When you have to face your giant, you have to use what God has given you. On any other day, what David had wouldn’t have knocked down a normal man. He was confident in the Lord and said “The Lord will give me victory on this day”. David was small, had no artillery and the folks with him were scared. His victory gave others courage. When David hit Goliath he fell because of David’s faith. God is waiting on us to do something. Faith without works is dead. David stepped out on faith and cut off Goliath’s head. When you step out on faith it will give courage to others. Sometimes he uses your life to bless others. Have you ever wondered why you had to cry and it seems like it’s just you? It’s so you can tell others, He’ll make a way out of no way, there’s no secret what God can do. Let them know, God will fight your battles. The only reason you can say, I’m healed, happy and prosperous is because I know what it’s like to be without. Encourage someone, tell them lift up your head, be of good cheer. He’ll fight your battles if you just stand still………………………Pastor Richard Russell
