~ 7/23 Neurologist Appt. Update ~ When I picked Buddy up this morning to head to the neurologist I was encouraged as there was more movement in his back legs. The doctor even said that after reading through all the notes from the night we found him to today he could see improvement. Buddy did well through his exam & MRI. They commented a couple of times how sweet Buddy is, & the tech said he crawled into her lap when she opened the carrier door The doctor said he started on the lower back & didnt find anything, so he kept slowly moving up & it was in the upper back right in between the puncture wounds that were on both sides in the shoulder area that he found extensive soft tissue//muscle trauma that penetrated deep into epaxial muscles surrounding his spine at T1-T2 causing extensive swelling and inflammation within his spinal cord. There is no significant compression so nothing that needs surgery at this time. The doctors primary concern is eliminating any potential infection that may be present given the trauma and proximity to the spinal cord. He is on two new antibiotics and a low dose steroid. He said Buddys prognosis is favorable, and I feel sure he just wants to be sure there is no infection deep down that will rear its head over the next couple of weeks. The doctor said that Buddy should be able to urinate on his own soon. He is optimistic that Buddy will continue to improve given the improvement he has already shown over the last week. He is back at our regular vet until Saturday & then I plan to bring him home to care for him. I have adjusted the fundraiser goal & have added pics of the invoices thus far on the fundraiser page. I have one more bill to settle on Saturday when I pick Buddy up. Initially I had thought Buddy was attacked by something, but then leaned more towards a trauma (hit by something, or a fall). Now that I know the injury is in the same area as those puncture wounds I am again leaning towards an attack of some kind. I honestly dont think well ever really know what happened. But what I do know is that this boy deserves the best indoor forever home where he will never have to encounter the many dangers of living outside again, or chance terrible injury from that kind of life. This is apparently strike two (x-rays showed a very large callous on his rear left femur from a previous break or fracture most likely due to being hit by a car per the vet), I dont want to know if hell survive strike three!! Buddy & I send out endless purrs of thanks for all of your support. We couldnt have come this far without it. Thank you also for your encouraging words, love, & prayers. Once this sweet handsome boy is healed were going to try our best to give him a much brighter future
