7 Beautiful Metro Manila Churches for Visita Iglesia Explore the metro with an open heart and go to these old and beautiful churches for your Visita Iglesia (church visit) this year Visita Iglesia is a Holy Week practice where devotees visit and pray in at least 7 churches. It was introduced to the Philippines by Augustinian missioners in the 1560s...... It can be done in one day, usually on Maundy Thursday, or it can take days until before Easter Sunday if churches are far apart. Stations of the Cross may also be held during church visits. Devotees either visit 14 churches for each of the 14 Stations of the Cross, or pray two stations in each of the 7 churches. For the Catholic faithful inPhilippines, Visita Iglesia (church visit) is a common practice during Holy Week, especially on Maundy Thursday. While there are churches all over Metro Manila, there are those which stand out for their rich history (some over 400 years old!) and beautiful architecture. Below is a suggested guide and route, with Edsa-Guadalupe as the starting point. Be prepared for some walking, though, which you may count as part of your panata (vow) or penitensya (penitence).
