7 MENTORS OF A GREAT DESTINY A wise man once said to us during a conference that “most of us do not know the implication of some prayers we make, especially; GOD, USE ME”. Seems quite simple and easy but it’s a dangerous prayer because we are giving God the full license to refine us. There is much potential in crude oil but it must be refined if all its potential is to be released. So it is for us humans, we must undergo a refining process. God’s pruning has eternal reward if we diligently adhere to His instructions and commands. It’s always for our promotion not necessarily for condemnation. It is the job of a mentor to prepare people for God’s lifting. They (mentors) do this by; Cause people to recognise opportunities Teach people how to positively respond to these opportunities when they see it. Our ability to recognise and seize (respond positively to) opportunities as they come is the difference between the rich and the poor. God gives us harvest that is commensurate to the seeds we have sown. Peter failed to fully recognise the office(s) Jesus occupied by obeying half heartedly when he was given an instruction. Even though he brought forth seemingly strong reasons, at that point, all that was needed from him was complete obedience. He lost a lot of harvest that day because of this. This goes to mean that we are just an opportunity away from the realisation of all our dreams and visions we have in our heart. Every great man we see today went through a mentoring program/medium. The medium each one goes through is determined by the path destined by God. There are seven (7) great mentors mentioned in this teaching which I would elaborate shortly. WOMEN (MOTHERS): This is the first great mentor every man can get. Right from their bosom, they teach us how to recognise and respond to love. If a baby is denied this, the mother will most likely lose her reward- honor your father and mother that your days may be long. This reward (honor from their offspring) is only due them when the mentoring role has been played properly. Even God depends on the parents to play this mentoring role because of the helpless state the child is in. At this stage, the God the child knows is his mother (parents). The amount of training a child learns from his mother is almost immeasurable. The family unit, we have been told again and again operate like the trinity. The husband is the visionary, the wife is the executor of the husbands will while the children implements’ the will of their father. The husband provides the necessary authority behind the woman. She is the one who communicates the will of the father to the children- this is why she is seen as the mentor. The authority backing her up will make the children realize that any deviation from the laid down rules attracts a punishment. The husband helps to ensure that there is no rebellion from the children. When the children grow up, they go out to extend their fathers will and he taught them. Honouring our parents=covenant of life. This applies to people who even do not honor God. A perfect example is what Naomi did for Ruth. She cultivated in her virtue, dignity and excellence. This made Boaz esteem her highly even though in the eyes of others she did something dishonourable. Every great man has a woman cultivating him somewhere. God gave men authority but gave women influence. The mentoring influence of a woman is inexhaustible. EXPERIENCE: Jesus learnt obedience through the things He suffered. This form of mentoring comes from non human elements. Experiences tend to teach us what not to do after we undergo some circumstances. They teach us to recognise and seize opportunities. We must not learn from our own experiences, we should also learn how to tap from other peoples’ experience. NATURE: this is another great teacher. God expects us to live by natural laws instead of expecting miracles always. Miracles are supernatural interventions to fix deviations from the norm- divine intervention made necessary because we are going through a problem. For example; the manna system of feeding for the children of Israel while they were in the wilderness. There’s a descent of morality in the western world because they have come to utilise/abide by these natural laws (which works perfectly for them), thus they claim not to need God’s help. Miracles are unnecessary if we learn to abide by these natural laws. Sir, I felt very guilty when you said; Prayers sometimes is what we use to suppress the signals we get warning us that we are deviating from the norm. I can almost imagine how God feels whenever we phone Him pleading for intervention when we can actually handle the situations ourselves by abiding by these natural laws. There is great wealth in nature, lets learn to utilise it. TEACHERS/INSTRUCTORS: This category appears as consultants and success coaches. These teaching priests can help develop God’s given mandate on our life. Under the mentorship of a teaching priest, capacities are enlarged. A typical example is Joash a boy of 7years who ruled under the teaching priest named Jehoaida. OVERSEERS/SUPERVISORS: this could come in the form of a boss in the workplace. These set of people are usually oppressors. When they see greatness in you, they imprison you and milk you dry. Any slightest treat to their growth, they eject you without thinking twice. We learn patience and perseverance coupled with purpose discovery from this category of mentors. Patience is the vehicle that caries us from the life of faith unto the point of result. God sends us to such mentors in other for them to train us to take over what they occupy. Sir, now I understand why I work for my boss. RULERS (MEN IN AUTHORITY AND POWER): When God gives us such mentors; He is most likely preparing us for the throne. They usually do not see themselves as our mentors. We learn from them how to recognise and respond to authority. This is essential for those in government; they must understand the ‘rule of law’. The centurion in the bible typified it. Willingness to die for a nation is the missing link in our leadership. An understanding of this will teach us how to defend ourselves and also rule with pride and dignity. THE HOLY SPIRIT- SPIRIT OF COUNSEL: He guides us into all truth. Most of what he does is to help choose which of the mentoring medium we are to pass through for the sakes of our destiny. We must learn to submit to his mentorship. For everyone born of a woman, God gives us two great gifts TIME AND OPPORTUNITY. Before he brings us opportunities, He gives us time for training under the various mentoring media so we can recognise and seize opportunities when they come. I HAVE A GREAT DESTINY AND I SHALL BIRTH IT IN DUE SEASON. Uzoamaka Ezekwesili.
