7 Tips For Creating More Space or The Illusion of More Space in The Kitchen. Brought to you by Moore & Charpen Home Remodeling at mooreandcharpen. 1) Removing a Wall. By removing a wall it will not only visually open the kitchen up but it also gives the illision of a much larger space. 2) Take Double-Bowl Sink Out. Consider installing a single-bowl sink verses the double-bowl sink. You will gain about 6 inches of cabinet and counter space like this. If you add a about an 18 inch dishwasher with a 25 inch single sink you will gain one foot of exter cabinet and counter space. 3) Do Away With Stand Out Refrigerator. Buy a Cabinet-depth refrigerator it gives the illision of more space and possibly gaining a little more cabinet space, depending on how the floor plan looks. By recessing the cabinet-depth into the wall, you can gain 4 inches of more space. 4) Get Microwave Off of Counter. Build your microwave either in the wall or creating a shelf to place under the cabinets. This gives much more space on the countertops to use. 5) Build an Island in the Middle of the Kitchen. By building an island in the middle you are creating quite a bit more counter and cabinet space. If your kitchen is too small for an island, consider buying a cart instead. This is not a much space creating, as the island would be, but it creates a bit more cabinet and counter space just the same. 6) Make a Spare Closet into a Pantry. You can create shelving in it. Move the less seldom used items into the pantry and out of the kitchen. Just take a look around, the hallway closet or computer closet would be great candidates for a pantry. It is just a matter of adding a few shelves and you have your pantry!! 7) Under-Cabinet Lighting. By creating under-cabinet lighting it not only gives the illusion of more space, it also helps with the abilty to have lighting in the hard to see areas of the countertops.
