7 Youth Development Programmes for Cross River Revolution III Youth in Agriculture Development Programme Today, Monday the 25th August, 2014 the President of Nigeria Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan flags off of the Private Sector Driven Agricultural Equipment Hiring Enterprise in line with the Agricultural Transformation Agenda of the present administration. To commemorate this, we unveil our Cross River State Youth in Agriculture Development Programme. There is no gainsaying that Agriculture is the highest employer of labour in Nigeria. The Agriculture sector has the potential to not only provide food security for the nation and the continent at large but also create jobs for our teeming youth population. Cross River State is blessed with arable land and climate that can support the growth of important crops and rearing of animals to provide food and raw materials for our industries. Agricultural Revolution in the state, with its massive increases in agricultural productivity and net output can be achieved by promoting youth foray into Agriculture and Agri-businesses. The Governments intervention in the sector and removal of identifiable bottlenecks as well as provision of incentives for increased Agricultural output is commendable. The state has made long-term investments in Agriculture in addition to the support by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the World Bank assisted Commercial Agriculture Development Project. The Cross River State Youth in Agriculture Development Programme is conceived to create opportunity for youth to go into Agriculture as an alternative for job creation and sustainable development. It is a well thought through process that will help youth access funds and other needed support to invest successfully in the Agricultural Sector of the state economy.
