7 years ago today, a friend passed away. Id never met him, but his example and the fearlessness he exuded at his craft liberated so many to pursue their own dreams as artists, and as human beings. What stood out most was his objective to pursue fun in life, explore depth of character in his art, and use his talents to speak on behalf of those who could not. His direction of this music video by Modest Mouse was one of his final works, released after his death, and directed our attention towards the sad, ongoing tragedy that is whaling. Out of respect and gratitude, PETA posthumously awarded him the 2009 Compassionate Artist award, and its because of these efforts during his time on Earth that many push forward to share his vision, long after he left us.
