7months ago, time flies ka saa ndani ya cockpit,a barefoot village boy boarded a bus from Laikipia to Nairobi not necessary to chase dreams as capitalists would put but to experience life and share the abstract. Among other things, this boy had performing at Slam Afrika in mind as one of his dreams.A dream that came true jana. Glad that I finally got a chance to Slam and shout out to everybody who made it possible. Ian,Dorphan,Teardrops,Dex,1183,Miphi,Marya,Sama,Steph,Steve,the entire Pawa254 fraternity and all the players who were up in it,I owe you what I can never repay. About my last piece,I had foreseen a third round and therefore decided to set myself apart from the rest. The subsequent rounds would have been sledge hammers for yall slammers. My 2nd poem was just to prove a point the rounds not withstanding.Apart from humour, there are others spurs to poetic expression; *Memory *Pain *Observation *History *Happiness e.t.c It was fulfilling watching people come to me after the Slam telling that I was great all the same.It means one thing, somebody somewhere got my point, theres no major impetus when it comes to poetic expression or Art. The idea of knighting one spur strikes me as highly dubious and destructive:it goes against the larger purpose of Art. I would also like to commend the ladies who Slammed. They were all straight dowpe!!! Now talk of poetry wearing a soul. For those who didnt know,my performance was a celebration of the life of one MERCY WANJIRU/Mama MIPHI who left us on Monday. She is a challenge to all of us to dare dream.May her Soul Rest in Poetry as She is laid to rest tomorrow in Mukurweini,Nyeri. The best Poet carried the trophy,I took Love home with me. Bless.
