8/20 - In my office, I have a few of the big sombreros from Mexico. Whats kind of funny, is that in the part of Mexico where our family lived, we actually never wore the traditional sombreros, but more of a white cowboy hat. When I was in the military along the Mexican border, I had purchased a brown poncho that had horses on it. I imagined myself as a Clint Eastwood - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - type of character. I have noticed over time, that I have also acquired a lot of sports jerseys (on sale) and will wear them on various occasions. Im not sure of the persona I give when I wear my Mexican, Russian, Brazilian, African or even sports clothing - but I realize that I am still the same John. My outside may look different, but the inside does not change with these particular duds. As Christ followers, we recognize the clothes are not what makes us a different or new person, but Jesus Christ makes us NEW. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Gods Word reminds us to not put on our old stained clothes anymore, but in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 we do well to remember: Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
