8/29: HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRANCES RUFFELLE Theatre World Award: Les Misérables (also won a Tony Award) Birthplace: London, England Ms. Ruffelle made her Broadway debut as Eponine in the original production of Les Misérables. In 1984, Ruffelle starred as Dinah in the original West End production of Starlight Express. From 1985, she played the role of Éponine in the original English-language production of Les Misérables in the West End and on Broadway. Other stage roles include, Yonah in Children of Eden, Roxie Hart in Chicago, the title role in Piaf and Bella in The A to Z of Mrs. P. In 1994, she represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, with the song Lonely Symphony (We Will Be Free), finishing 10th. The song reached the UK top 30. Her albums include Fragile, Frances Ruffelle, Showgirl and Imperfectly Me. She also appeared in the 2012 film version of Les Misérables, and the films Secrets & Lies and Devils Tower.
