8/3/14- City of Baker members of the board, not informing Students, parents, Tax payers the community of HiGH cost purchases..Im all about higher education for all students, this beats the case research for yourself. City of Baker Curriculum Instructor, insisted for Baker school system to purchase this High cost textbooks? The parents werent given information about this large purchase, the members of the board agreed in a board meeting. My take on this is where did the funds come from, or our Elementary schools going to have the students? Im excited that at least every child would have a textbook, my question is if our elementary schools rank F why are we even investing in this high stake level of learning?.. Once again a senseless financial accountability of members of the board in. Baker. The La DOE insisted for schools to adopt this curriculum in order for them to provide professional dev. So was schools demanded to adopt this curriculum in schools? It was my understanding that schools could adopt their own curriculum, if that was the case Baker school have adopted a much lower curriculum thats conductive to the learning state our students are in. Parents you must ask yourself knowing the, City of Bakers, educational background are they being honest with the childrens money; or are they just making large purchases to waste the tax payers money? Research Eureka math for Elementary, in box your concerns if you want to remain private. https://louisianabelieves/docs/default-source/teacher-toolbox-resources/eureka-math-overview.pdf?sfvrsn=2 Research how Lake Charles parents feel about this? Learning is not about standardized tests Residents of Calcasieu Parish and the Calcasieu Parish School Board will be presented with a recommendation at their Aug. 5 board meeting to purchase over $700,000 worth of textbooks completely aligned with the Common Core curriculum. You have seen it in the news, the governor of Louisiana along with an overwhelming number of teachers and parents are against this federal takeover of our education system. Do not let local Common Core cronies with self-serving aspirations push this under the disguise of helping our children. Common Core is bad, period. You can believe me or you can believe the people selling the books. Learning is not about standardized tests. Teaching is not about standardized tests. Education is not about creating a workforce for the elite. Call your school board member and tell them not to waste your tax dollars on the purchase of these textbooks. Do not let them tell you their hands are tied. They are elected officials. We elect them to lead not follow blindly and cowardly. This is our parish and our state it does not belong to Pearson Publishing nor Superintendent John White.
