8/30/14 UPDATE on Adam Ko Mason ..... Well today is the first Saturday of the football season and game plans mean a great deal. Adams treatment also now has a game plan going into the future. Right now, he has drain tubes for the infection that plagued him this past week. The next step will be on Tuesday. He will have a vacuum wrap attached to finish getting the infection and fluids out. This will be for at least 4 days. Then it gets a little weird and complicated. After the vacuum, he will go through an abdominal flap procedure. In this procedure, the goal will be to build and essentially transplant muscle from his abdomen to his wrist. How they are going to do it is the weird part. They are going to attach the muscle left in his wrist to his abdominal muscle. While they do this, the muscle will not be completely removed from his abdomen meaning that his wrist will be unable to move. And then, they wait. They will wait for a minimum of 3 weeks. At this point, he will be in outpatient status and will be able to leave the hospital. After the 3 weeks, the focus will be looking for blood flow to and from wrist. If everything looks good, they will complete the muscle transfusion by detaching it completely from his abdomen. If not, I dont have a clue. After removing the wrist from the abdomen, assuming all goes well, he will be able to go home. He will have to go back to Galveston in 6 months after that for evaluation. Like I said, this is the game plan as of now and is certainly available to change. This is a lot of info and if any of this is incorrect, look in the comments for clarification.
