8/8: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUSTIN HOFFMAN Theatre World Award: Eh? (also Drama Desk Vernon Rice Award) Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA Mr. Hoffmans Broadway credits include: A Cook for Mr. General, Jimmy Shine (Drama Desk Award), All Over Town, Death of a Salesman (Drama Desk Award), and The Merchant of Venice (Drama Desk nominee). His Off Broadway credits include A View from the Bridge, The Journey of the Fifth Horse, and Eh? His breakthrough 1967 film role was as Benjamin Braddock, the title character in The Graduate. Since then Hoffmans career has largely been focused on cinema, with sporadic returns to television and the stage. His most notable films include Midnight Cowboy,The Graduate, Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, Papillon, Lenny, Marathon Man, All the Presidents Men, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, Rain Man, Hook, and Wag the Dog. Dustin has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning two (for his performances in Kramer vs. Kramer and Rain Man), thirteen Golden Globes, winning six (including an honorary one) and has won four BAFTAs, three Drama Desk Awards, a Genie Award, and an Emmy Award. He received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1999, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. Hoffman had his directorial debut in 2012, with Quartet.
