In the subsequent revolution against the United States he became known as “the brains of the revolution.” He was so considered by the American army officers, who bent every energy to capture him. “He was the leading adviser of Aguinaldo, and was the author of the latter’s many able decrees and proclamations. First. Dagdagan mong pilit ang talos ng isip at katutubong alam na ipinagkaloob ng Dios sa iyo sa pamamag-itan ng pag-aaral, at magsumakit ka ng ubos lakas sa gawang kinahihiligan ng iyong loob, na huag kang sisinsay kailan man sa daang magaling at katowiran, upang matipon sayo ang lalong maraming kagalingan at sa ganitong paraa’y makatulong ka sa ikasusulong ng lahat; ito nga’y siya mong pagkasunod sa pinatutungkol sa iyo ng Dios sa buhay na ito, at kun yao’y maganap mo ay magkakapuri ka at kun may puri ka na’y maitatanghal mo naman ang kapurihan ng iyong Dios. Cultivate the special abilities which God has given thee, working and studying according to thy strength, without departing from the path of goodness and from justice, in order to attain thy own perfection and thus contribute to the progress of humanity: thus shall thou realize the mission which God Himself has planned out for thee in this life, and realizing it, thou shall have honor; having honor thou shalt glorify thy God. 4 Ykaapat. Fifth. Secure the happiness of thy country before thy own making therefrom the kingdom of right, of justice and or work; for if she is happy, happy shall thou and thy family be. 6 Ykaanim. Pagpilitan mo ang kasarinlan ng iyong bayan, sa pagka’t ikaw lamangang tunay na makapagmamasakit sa kanyang ikasusulong at ikatatanghal, ang kanyang kasarinla’y siya mo naming kalayaan o kaluwagan, ang kanyang pagkasulong ang kayamanan mo sa lahat ng bagay at ang kanyang pagkatanghal ang siya mo naming sariling kabantugan at kabuhayang walang hangan. Sixth. Secure the independence of thy country, because thou alone canst have a true interest in her aggrandizement and dignity, as her independence constitutes thy own liberty, her aggrandizement thy perfection and her dignity thy own glory and immortality. 7 Ykapito. Huwag mong kilalanin sa loob ng iyong bayan ang pangyarihan nino mang tawona hindi sa lagay ninyong magkakababayan, pagka’t ang boong kapangyariha’y sa Dios nagmumula at ang Dios ay sa konsiencia ng bawa’t isa nangungusap; kaya’t ang tawong ituro at ihalal ng mga konsiencia ng sangkabayanan ang siya lamang makapagtataglay ng tunay na kapangyarihan. Seventh. Recognize no authority in thy country of any person who may have not been elected by thee and by thy compatriots, because all authority emanates from God, and as God speaks in the conscience of every individual, the person (whom) the individual conscience of a whole people appoint and proclaim is the only one who can show real authority. 8 Ykawalo. Ihanap mong pilit ang iyong bayan ng Republica, yaon baga ang lahat na namamahala ay palagay ng bayan, at huag isipin kailan man ang Monarquia, ang pagkakaroon baga ng hari; sa pagka’t ang hari ay walang binibigyan ng kamahalan kundi isa o ilang angkan lamang, upang maitayo niya ang kanyang sariling angkan na siyang pangagalingan ng lahat na maghahari; hindi ganito ang Republica na nagbibigay ng kamahalan at karapatan sa lahat palibhasa’y ang kabaitan ang pinaiiral, at ang baya’y nagiging dakila alang-alang sa kalayaan o kaluagan, at marilag at masagana gawa ng kasipagan. Secure for thy people a republic but never a monarchy: the latter ennobles one or several families and founds a dynasty; the former builds up a people, noble and worthy through reason, great through liberty, prosperous and brilliant through industry. 9 Ykasiyam. Ibigin mo ang kapua mo tawo paris ng pag-ibig mo sa iyong sarili, sa pagka’t siya’y binigyan ng Dios, at ikaw ay ganon din naman, ng katungkulang tulungan ka at huag niyang gawin asa iyo ang di niya ibig na gawin mo sa kaniya; nguni’t kapag ang kapua mo tawo ay nagkukulang dito sa kamahalmahalang katungkulan at pinagtatangkaang lipulin ang iyong buhay at kalayaan at pag-aari, ay dapat mo naming ibual at lipulin siya, pagka’t ang mananaig ay ang kaunaunahang utos ng Dios, mag-ingat ka at iningatan kita. Ninth. Love thy neighbor as thy self, because God has imposed upon him as he has upon thee the obligation of helping thee and not doing unto thee as he would not have thee do unto him; but if thy neighbor, failing in this sacred duty, shouldst attempt to take thy life, thy liberty and thy property, then thou shouldst destroy and annihilate him, as the supreme law of self-preservation would prevail. 10 Ykapuo. Palalaloin ng kaonti sa loob mo ang iyong kababayan sa iyong kapua tawo; aariin mong palagi siya na parang isang katoto, kapatid kaya o kasama man lamang, palibhasa’y iisa ang inyong kapalaran, iisa din ang inyong tuwa at kapighatian at magkakaayon din naman ang inyong mga hinahangad at pag-aari. Tenth Thou shalt love thy compatriot somewhat more than thy neighbor: thou shalt see in him a friend, a brother, and at least, a companion to whom thou art bound by the same lot, by the same joys and sorrows, and by common aspirations and by common interests. Therefore, while the frontiers of nations exist, raised and maintained by the egotism of race and family, to him alone shouldst thou unite thyself in perfect solidarity of aims and interest, to attain strength, not only to fight the common enemy, but also to realize all the aims of human life.
