8-Track Theater trippin to the sixties... again. Flashback to the fall of 1969 and CSN& sometimes Y were recording the Deja vu LP and appeared on the short lived ABC TV show The Music Scene. Rare that for a taped show the performances were not Dick Clarked aka lip synced. Hardly, Stills and Young tore this one up and to this day is one of the best live for TV performances I have ever seen. A bit of a curve was that this show was :45 minutes in length followed by a similar segmented show The New People. ABC was taking chances with a bunch of music oriented programs at the time. Neil threatened to walk out of the taping but you have Gram Nash to thank for keeping the jive alive...and getting thru that its not that commercial as hardly anybody would be watching according to Mr. Neilsons figures. The Beatles, James Brown, Three Dog Night, Tom Jones were on the initial program and Janis Joplin, The Miracles, Sly & the Family Stone, Isaac Hayes, Stevie Wonder, Bo Diddley and Mama Cass Elliot, (who co-hosted as well as performed) among many others, appearing on subsequent 17 shows and then The Music Scene was but a footnote in the 8-Track Theater History books.
