#8 on our list of the Top 50 Scariest Films of All Time: George - TopicsExpress

#8 on our list of the Top 50 Scariest Films of All Time: George Romero broke new ground with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 1968, but he truly kickstarted the zombie genre with the penultimate DAWN OF THE DEAD. Fuelled by non-stop carnage and gore, DAWN also infused the genre with wit, intelligence and social conscience, and in doing so created the template for the modern zombie genre. Anchored by its four very likeable lead actors, and its apocalyptic approach to the material, very few films in the genre have been so inspirational to so many. DAWN also brings us back to that rare breed, the financially and critically successful unrated horror film, a species that breathed its last gasp in the 70s and 80s and is sadly extinct today, driven to direct-to-DVD. DAWN OF THE DEAD remains fascinating and entertaining to this day, and a wonderful example of auteur filmmaking.
