80s Flashback: Happy New Year, Facebook Family. Each week, I feature music videos and trivia from the pop chart for the current week in a year from the 80s. Most weeks, I use the weekend countdown on Sirius/XM Satellite Radios 80s station, 80s on 8 as my guide. The countdown Iis hosted by the original VJs from the early years of MTV. I hope you enjoy my 80s music posts, as it gives me a chance to share music I love and to play DJ. Last weekend, they did something a little different. Instead of This week in 198-, they counted down the Most Rad Party Hits of 80s So, for this first week of 2015, I will feature a few hits from that chart. Strangely, I can not play the #1 song on that chart, as the artist removed most of his videos from the internet. At the #1 spot on MTVs Most Rad Party Hits of The 80s was 1999 by Prince. I could not even find pirated files of the video. So, we begin at #2 on the chart. The Beastie Boys was an American rap rock/hip hop band from New York City, formed in 1981. For the majority of its career, the group consisted of Michael Mike D Diamond (vocals, drums),Adam MCA Yauch (vocals, bass) andAdam Ad-Rock Horovitz (vocals, guitar). In April, 2012, The Beastie Boys became the third rap act (behind Run-DMC and Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five) to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One month later, Adam MCA Yauch died of cancer at the age of 38. May Adam rest in peace. As for chart performance, The Beastie Boys had one Top 40 hit (Brass Monkey) prior to this one. However, this song is the bands true claim to fame; peaking in 1987, at #7 inThe U. S. and Canada and #11 in The U. K. Though it never went to #1, the song is cross-generational, as many of 2014s youth know the song. The original MTV VJs ranked this as the #2 most Rad Part Song of The 80s.
