81 1st and 2nd-term mayors in CL attend DILG orientation By Carlo Lorenzo J. Datu SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga, June 27 (PIA) -- Eighty-one first and second term municipal and city mayors in Central Luzon recently attended the three-day orientation of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). “The undertaking was meant to equip local chief executives (LCEs) with the necessary knowledge and attitude to effectively and efficiently manage their respective localities during their term of office,” said DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan. “It was also an avenue for the mayors to formulate their program of governance and at the same time provide an opportunity to establish linkage among other local government units as well as national government agencies,” Dijan added. Anchored on the theme, “Be BOLD and aim for the BEST,” Felix Vladimir Francisco discussed “Righteous Leadership” while several line government agencies discussed their various programs as well as rules and regulations namely Home Development Mutual Fund, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Department of Health, Bureau of Local Government Finance, Department of Budget and Management, Commission on Audit , Civil Service Commission, Philippine National Police, Office of Civil Defense, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Balanga Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III also shared the good practices of his city including its priority programs and projects. Moreover, Dijan presented DILG’s Indicative Framework of Governance as well as its programs and accomplishments. Other DILG Regional Officials namely Assistant Regional Director and concurrent Nueva Ecija Provincial Director Abraham Pascua, Pampanga Provincial Director Myrvi Fabia, Tarlac Provincial Director Araceli San Jose, Capability Development Division Chief Martin Porres, and Moral and Regional Information Technology Officer Melerie Pineda likewise discussed relevant topics on local governance. The highlight of the occasion was the signing of the attending LCEs of the Pledge of Commitment to strive for excellence in local governance in order to attain inclusive and sustained growth and poverty reduction.
