886277064035 called the AASA phone. The guy on the other line said he is from UK. Our Samsung phone on the other hand alerted us that the call is from Taiwan. The caller said he is a foster guardian of a scholar who is applying for a scholarship in the Ateneo and that he wanted to learn about the deliberation process. I explained that we only handle fundraising and provided the number of OAA who handles scholarship applications. I had a terrible feeling about the call. When I googled the number, I found that this number has been used for scams: "It is a taiwanese telephone #. It is probably internet phone. there are taiwanese syndicates operating call centers here in philippines. They will tell you that your number was used in a criminal operation of some sort and try to extort money. They seem to victimize locals, taiwanese & pretty much other nationalities. A lot of these "call centers" have been apprehended but they seem to be everywhere. I hear about it on the local news about once a month. They usually conduct operations in exclusive subdivisions. Please be aware." What the hell is happening? This is so creepy :(
