8TH MARCH 2014 - NO CELEBRATIONS AT CRUMLIN Waking this morning slightly dazed and confused I ask myself did yesterday really happen? I am not talking here about my over indulgence with some fine red wine for my birthday but the late defeat to Crumlin for Lisburns reserves 3-4. Born the year England won the World Cup, Eric cantona was born and David Bowie released his first single I have seen a lot in my 48 years but in a match where we were ahead 3 times and came away defeated I find myself unusually speechless (but not really). The day started well with a resurgent Stevie Neill scoring through a determined solo effort on goal. Our play was swift with the young lads knocking the ball around to the frustration of the older Crumlin side who got a goal against the run of play just before the interval. With our lads failing to take their chances and a good save from the keeper from a Davison strike the boys were disappointed to be drawing 1-1 at half time. Second half continued in the same manner with the reserves on top and creating the best chances with Davison unlucky with a left foot strike going wide of goal. At this point Young Caswell must must have been pulling his designer hair out but then it happened .... After good play from Rainey on the right that at last produced a cross Davison was able to beat defender and keeper with a left foot tap in to make his ole mans day. Whilst at this point I was compiling the report in my head Crumlin again equalised through some good determined play. 2-2 didnt last long though with big Stevie scoring again to take the boys into a 3-2 lead with 10 mins to go. Fair play to Crumlin who changed a couple of players and went on the attack to get the equaliser and then the eventual winner with only seconds remaining. Having won this way in the cup earlier in the season against Bloomfield the boys were gutted having played so well. At the final whistle some of the Crumlin lads thought they had got a draw such was the madness of the chaotic final moments. In summary every player who took the field played well and gave their all in what was a brilliant display by both teams. On the journey back in a car older than half the team, despite the disappointment there was a lot to applaud about the way the lads played. Onwards and upwards cmon the reserves!
