8th round of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship series... More Podiums for Kuno Wittmer ! Elkhart Lake (Wisconsin), August 11 2014.– Montreal driver Kuno Wittmer contested this past weekend’s round of the Tudor United SportsCar series, the North American championship for Endurance races. After claiming three podiums in three races since the start of the summer, including a win two weeks ago at the Indianapolis circuit, Kuno and his teammate continued their string of success by finishing third at Wisconsin’s Elkhart Lake track. This recent result allows Kuno to conserve his second place in the GT Le Mans class drivers’ championship as he closes the gap to just eight points behind the leaders. After earning back-to-back victories at the end of July in Toronto’s World Challenge series and Endurance in Indianapolis, Kuno Wittmer knew that the long and fast Road America track at Elkhart Lake would favour his Dodge Viper GTS-R. He proved that in the free practice session, swapping first place with the second SRT Motorsports team car. Teammate Jonathan Bomarito qualified their #93 car in second place. Kuno Wittmer took the start of the race with a goal that has become their norm : to win ! « I fell to eighth place at the start but I quickly climbed back to third. It then became a more strategic race than anything else because there were multiple accidents primarily involving prototype cars, which brought out the yellow flag and sometimes very long caution periods following the security vehicle » explains the only Quebec driver to contest the entire Endurance season. Just before mid-race, Kuno Wittmer entered the pits, handing the wheel of the #93 Viper over to Bomarito, who finished the remaining of the event, including more caution periods, and crossed the finish line in third place right on the heels of the two cars in front of him. With this podium, the fourth in as many Tudor United SportsCar series races this summer, Kuno Wittmer halved the gap to the championship leaders. « Jonathan and I are only eight points behind first place. There are three races left and I sincerely think that they’re at fast tracks where the Viper, with its powerful engine, will not be at a disadvantage compared to the GT competitors’ cars. I’m really optimistic » confides Kuno. The second Viper entered by SRT Motorsports in the GT Le Mans Class, the #91 driven by Belgian Marc Goossens and German Dominik Farnbacher, finished fourth at Elkhart Lake. The next round of the North American Endurance season will take place in two weeks at the Virginia Raceway, in Virginia. Similarly to Elkhart Lake, this will be a race of two hours and forty-five minutes, held on August 24th. - END - For more information : Pole-Position Press Services, [email protected] Hi-res resolution photos are attached to this press release, for editorial use only.
