9/11 reflections.. I was on a Lear Jet en route to Livermore, CA when the pilot stated, we have a problem. After scanning the instrument panel and questioning the pilot, he admitted there was nothing wrong with out aircraft. Someone had flown aircraft into the towers in NYC. FAA was closing down all airspace and flights were directed to land at the closest suitable airfield. We were permitted to return to Albuquerque, from over Las Vegas, NV, because personnel on board were important for the national defense posture and the aircraft might be needed for response operations. Returned safety to the home base that day while many commercial passengers were stuck in airports they had not intended to be in. I was fortunate to be in the position I was in at that time. However, many people lost loved ones that day and we continue to attempt to conquer the terrorist enemy. As a Navy combat veteran, I sincerely hope we someday finish what we start. I pray that the efforts of my generation and the current one (to include my wifes brothers son-in-law) are not in vain. Sorry for the lengthy statement, but I did play Taps on my trumpet this afternoon because it seemed appropriate.
