9/30/14. Tues. of Week #5. (Includes instructions for an extension to Journal #6 & for a new piece of homework that will get turned into Journal #7. I give special instructions b.c. the homework was harder than I thought.) We discussed your journal entries in groups. As you did so, you made Journal #6 longer by writing down some of the ideas of you colleagues. We also did the quickest tour ever of the Odyssey by watching the clip here: youtube/watch?v=MS4jk5kavy4. Finally, I assigned a piece of homework that will be the basis for a journal entry. Use the Internet to find a piece of poetry or visual art that does something interesting with a character or scene from the Illiad or the Odyssey and print it. I tried the search just now, and I can tell you that the poetry is tough to find. I tried the sample search string: Hector poem. I had to paw through tons of translations and articles ABOUT him and couldnt find poems I knew existed. The Wikipedia entries for him mentioned his treatment in literature, but it concentrated on long works like plays. Conclusion: art is easier. (However, even for art, I had to put Hector art Iliad because I was getting images of modern Hectors.
