9:30 AM (Local Time) - Tarbiyyah with Sheikh Omar Suleiman The sheikh just mentioned this in class about the state of our love of RasoolAllah(saw), and I dont know about all of you but this statement hit right at home. Our love for Prophet (saw) does not transcend above an emotional love of him. We have the type of love that the christians have of Eesa(as), its just an emotional love but the reality of his character, his aggressive nature, the aspects of him walking into a temple and flipping tables, challenging social/political injustices, and taking a hard stance against tyrants is often ignored. There is no practical love for him that exists, they generally love the image, the idea, the person, but not the practical aspects. The general understanding that most christians have of Eesa(as) is one where he is always smiling, when in reality there is a lot more to his personality that has been forgotten over time. Muslims have similar understanding of our beloved Prophet (saw), which is mostly emotional and less practical. Not to say emotional love is not important, because it really is, in fact you need the emotional aspect as well, however there is a whole chunk of his practical life that we overlook. You will see it in our actions, we nit pick certain sunans over others, we have started to ignore the ahadith that talk about his anger, his stern behaviour, his ability to stop corruption, and social injustices, and his ability to correct someone if they are about to do wrong. Even with all these aspects, he never had an overbearing nature, no one was ever annoyed by him, which is beautiful. Today, we ignore social injustice issues, we shy away from standing up for those who are being oppressed and let others (mostly non-muslims) stand up more for muslims, than muslims do for themselves. There are more non-muslims participating in boycott This is our Prophet (saw), we need to understand the value of love for him needs to be both emotional and practical. We cannot say things like this hadith (even if its sahih) doesnt sound like something RasoolAllah (saw) will say, because statements as such will only cause us harm, because it will go to show our understanding of him and our love for him. There is a lot more, study the whole, and not the part.
