(9:30 P.M., MONDAY): AN UPDATE ON THE FLOODING SITUATION ALONG THE VERDIGRIS RIVER IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY The National Weather Service in Wichita has Montgomery County under a flood warning through Tuesday night. At 8:25 p.m., the Verdigris River in Coffeyville was at 18.2 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. The river will continue rising to near 20.9 feet by early Tuesday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage early Wednesday morning. The impact: at 20 feet, both banks along the river lowlands will overflow. The road floods along the intersection of South Buckeye Street and Eldridge Street near the state line. At 8 p.m., the Verdigris River in Independence was at 33.8 feet. Flood stage is 30 feet. The river will continue rising to near 34.2 feet by early Tuesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage Tuesday afternoon. Minor flooding has occurred in the low-lying areas along the river. Minor flooding those areas will continue until the river subsides. Those river forecasts do not account for any additional rain tonight or Tuesday morning. The NWS forecast for Montgomery County calls for an 80 percent chance of rain tonight (Monday) and a 50 percent chance of rain fall on Tuesday. Daytime high temperatures on Tuesday are expected to be about 95 degrees on Tuesday. Heat index values will reach the mid-100s.
