9 a.m. Just spoke on my mobile with Sandeep Shankar, Krishna Prashad, and Rajeev Ranjan Nag, members of the Press Council of India committee who are presently in Chandigarh, They were given an appointment at 7 a.m. with the Director General of Police, Haryana, and they were with him for one and a half hours discussing the recent attack on mediapersons in Bhawala, Hissar. The DGP is enquiring into the incident, and will be going tomorrow ( Sunday ) to Bhawala, where the PCI committee members will again meet him. Though he has yet to form a definite conclusion as the matter is being probed, the DGP told the committee members that it may be that the policemen at the lower levels of the command structure on in individual basis who may have been responsible for the mishap. The committee members will be meeting the Home Secretary, Haryana some time today, and at 3 p.m.they will meet mediapersons at the Press Club in Chandigarh. Tomorrow morning they are going to Bhawali. All concerned are requested to contact them there and give their versions of the incident.
