9YR OLD BROTHERS UPDATE FROM FOSTER DAD Ken Robson; Were Mottu & Sheru- renamed Roman & Troy. A TALE OF DEVOTION AND BROTHERLY LOVE - and a few pics from this morning’s walk. Roman and Trojan (Troy) have lived together as brothers for 9 years and have never been indoors. They have never been separated, in fact they were puppy number 7 and 8 in the litter so they were probably together in their mother’s womb. Their knowledge and understanding of the normal world as most dogs know it is minimal. The boys are learning though, and learning fast. As outdoor dogs there is no need for house training, but for the last three nights we have had no accidents in the house. Great progress. I guess the boys have never seen stairs let alone try to negotiate them. They follow me everywhere but not upstairs, this is WAAAAAAY to scary, ......yet they want to follow me. Troy is the most adventurous of the two and each day he has ventured further and further up the stairs, then fear overcomes him and he backs down again. Yesterday I go upstairs and get to the landing, I turn around and there is Troy......... GOOD BOY. Roman though is in a panic, he must be with his brother but he is terrified, but the love for his brother is overwhelming, in a semi panic and crying all the way, a step at a time he braves the stairs and makes it to the top, by his brothers side. Lots of praise. Now it gets really hard. Jo and I sleep in the attic so it’s another flight of stairs, steeper, narrower, and it has a 90 bend at the bottom. Jo and I go to bed and we hear the commotion on the landing, after a while Troy appears but Roman can’t make it, he is at the bottom crying, it’s pitiful. I try to help him but he backs away he is just too scared. We decide to go to bed and leave him to see if he can manage on his own. After what seems like and age of listening to Roman cry we hear a determined THUMP... THUMP.................... THUMP..THUMP and he makes it to the top. GOOD LAD. Reunited with his brother they settle down to sleep. In the morning neither of them can get down but that’s another story:) When I take the pack out for a walk they all sit at the front door quietly (apart from Saxon who is yelling at me to hurry up), I open the door and walk through, then invite the pack outside. They race to the front gate and wait, (apart from Saxon who bounces around yelling at me to hurry up). I then go to my truck and lower the tail gate, extend the ramp, make sure no cats are around then I shout the pack to enter the truck. Saxon is always first in, he is not good at waiting. I know this all sounds a bit dog whisperer but while it works very well occasionally most times some-one decides not to play ball and it takes a few attempts. Today it was Maxs turn to be a pain, normally he is very good but today he refused to sit and stay. So it’s back in the house for him until I get the rest in the car. I open the front door of the house and Max goes back inside but Troy also sneaks inside, not a problem I think as now I only have to get 4 in the car, I will get Max and Troy in afterwards. I go back to the front gate to begin the get in the car ritual and poor Roman is trembling, I mean massively shaking. All this stuff is so new to him but now his brother is not by his side to reassure him. At this point it struck me hard that people often treat these beautiful animals so badly, yet look at the capacity they have for love, loyalty, devotion and dependence on on-another. With all of that goes intelligence. Yet some people even bloody cook them alive and eat them. IT DISGUSTS ME. Anyway, Troy is let out the house to be with his brother and we head out for a lovely walk. See the pics Romans ear is much better, off to see Uncle John tomorrow at the vets. They are adjusting very well, they mix well with other dogs when out and are generally AWESOME
