9th March: Boyle Celtic continues to stumble their way towards claiming The Best Western Sligo Southern Hotel Super League but once again chinks are beginning to appear in their armour. This time they were visitors to Brother Walfrid Park to take up the challenge of bottom of the table Ballymote Celtic the previous league first round encounter in January seen Boyle hit ten goals without reply. This proved to be an entirely different scenario Ballymote Celtic getting back from a long run of injury’s were in excellent form Conor Meehan hit a cracker of a goal and penalty king Brendan Lowry cool as a breeze fired home from the penalty spot. Boyle responded with strikes from Aaron Calpin as well as Gerry and Niall Brennan to take all three points but Ballymote will have taken the most from this battling display if continued will see them rise up the table Boyle on the other hand can afford statically to drop four points and still win the league however many more displays like the last two may see a great opportunity lost. Calry Bohs were ahead after two minutes when the fleet of foot Eoin Nicholson rifled home the opener against Strand Celtic who had to wait until sixteen minutes from time for a goal when Ryan Lynch netted the equaliser and secured a valuable point for Strand while putting a dent in the title aspirations of Calry. Last Year’s Super League Champions City United continue their revival under manager Clive Sommers wining well away to Real Tubber Christopher Kelly scoring twice and Ross Mc Laughlin adding the third with Tubber netting once through Peter Wynne. This result leaves City top of the table eight points ahead of Boyle Celtic who have four games in hand. Aughanagh Celtic were in devastating form away to Cartron United hitting five goals Paul Mc Tiernan grabbing a brace Thomas Cryan, Colin Flynn and Stephen Craig also on the mark Brian Harris and Neil O Brien each scored once for Cartron. Enda Breslin hit the only goal of the game for Yeats United away to St John’s to capture three fantastic points at Carraroe. Ballisodare United went goal crazy hitting five without reply at home to Carrick Town Conor Davey Mark Mc Goldrick Darragh Healy each with a goal plus a double from Damien Fallon sealed the result for the Boys from Ballisodare. MCR under the astute management of John Lynch and fresh from a great victory over high flyers Merville United last week once again produced an excellent display at home in the Andrew Mullen Premier League again tough opposition in the form of Coolaney United. Ciaran Harvey fired home to glorious goals and James Cullen a third to keep MCR Top of the table in what will be a great title race. Leitrim Kingpins Manor Rangers signalled their intent hitting seven past Boyle Celtic reserves in the Bee Park Paul Boylan hit four goals Alan Hickey added two more and Colm Callinan rounded off one of the highest scoring games of the day Gary Mc Dermottroe and Colin Goldrick scored a goal each for Boyle but the day and the points were all Manor. Merville bounced right back into contention away to Cliffoney Celtic at the dome in Mullaghmore Cormac Coyne Stephen Coen and Glen Shannon were on the mark for a rampant Merville United with Daragh Hoey netting a consolation strike for Cliffoney. The Cleary Landscapes & Pitch Maintenance Division One sees Ballygawley Celtic continue their quest for silverware winning by the odd goal in three away to the excellent Dromore Villa at Templeboy. J P Henry and Sean Lackey were the hero’s for Ballygawley with a goal apiece and Trevor Kilgallon replied for the Villa. Arrow Harps are also in the hunt thanks to goal machine Dylan Edwards who netted four times and Johnny Baker adding two more in their encounter with Swagman at Riverstown Brian Keaney scored a brilliant hat trick for Swagman but on the day it was a bridge to far. Congratulations: The league on behalf of the Management Committee and affiliates would like to extend their sincere congratulations to League Representative manager John Loftus on been invited by Western Region Team Manager Diarmuid O Brien to assist him with their preparations for the trial game against the Eastern Region in April.
