9th Street Market -Philadelphia The 9th Street Market is still thriving today. When my mom was young, she lived just off this market street where everyone congregated and did their shopping. The area was mostly comprised of Italian immigrants. I have fond memories of visiting this street every Saturday when I was a kid in the East. Here a person could get anything - usually at a bargain. As for authentic Italian imports, this was the place to go, so my entire family frequented the market for all the best fresh imports as well as cheeses, fish and meat. The street was immortalized in the film Rocky when Sylvester Stallone ran down the street in a sequence where he is shown training for the fight. I took my children to visit the market on a trip back East when they were young, but needless to say, it wasnt the same for them.
