A 12 year old boy yesterday committed suicide after the news of his mother’s arrest reached him. The class four pupil from Baranga location in Meru County had been living with his mother, who used to sell illicit brew. The mother was arrested during a crack down on drinking dens by police officers. According to locals, the boy returned home from playing and found the mother missing. He asked and was informed that the mother was arrested for selling illicit brew. He left only for his body to be discovered today morning hanging from a tree outside their house. While confirming the incident, the area police boss, Charles Kosgey, said that the mother was the sole bread winner of the family and the boy committed suicide from disillusionment and had no one to count for support. Kosgey said that the mother was however released on bond awaiting the hearing of her case.
