A BETTER GIFT than a servant Fatimah r.a lived a simple life after her marriage and was generally happy and satisfied. She did all the household chores, grinding wheat, making bread and cooking food. She did not have any servant to assist her with laundry and housekeeping. When her hands grew sore from grinding the mill, she described her difficulty ti Ali r.a. One day Muhammad s.a.w recieved some slaves. Fatimah r.a visited him to request a slave, but he was not at home. She told Aishah r.a about her problems and the purpose of her visit. When Muhammad s.a.w returned home, Aishah r.a told him about Fatimahs visit. Ali r.a reported that Muhammad s.a.w visisted them late at night when they had gone to bed. When Ali r.a realized he was there,he got up to welcome him. Muhammad s.a.w urged him to remain in bed. Without any formalities, he sat down between Ali and Fatimah r.a so that Ali could feel the cool of his lower limbs on his chest. He then said, Why dont I give you two a gift that is better for you than a slave? He continued, When you lie down in your bed to sleep, say SUBHAN ALLAH 33 times ALHAMDULILLAH 33times and ALLAHU AKBAR 33times; that is better for you than a slave. Despite his love for Fatimah r.a Muhammad s.a.w did not give her a servant. He preferred strength and sunplicity for his daugther and son-in-law, who were going to be role models for humanity for all the time. It would not have been wrong to give her a servant ,but he wanted her and his son-in-law to think more Allahs pleasure than the acquisition of wordly possesions. MASHA ALLAH...
