A BINAY PRESIDENCY IS WRONG By Philip Jr Lustre Come to think of it, a Binay presidency is wrong in practically all counts. First, Binay personifies unbridled political opportunism. From a political standpoint, he is the company union. He is neither fish nor fowl. He is part of the administration, but he projects himself as the leader of the political opposition. At times, he disagrees with the President. Yet, he does not have the moral courage to resign his Cabinet post. Second, Binay represents a backward step – or backsliding - in Philippine politics. History has shown the tendency to move forward. All those strides to put integrity as the primary factor in governance would go for naught if Binay becomes president. The plunder charges he currently faces before the Office of Ombudsman deserve answers from him. Third, Binay brings to the frontline the political rejects. He does not inspire leadership; he hardly cultivates new faces. The political leaders he cultivates are the people, who do not deserve to be prominently mentioned. They are the dishrags of Philippine politics. Fourth, Binay personifies traditional politics. He is the quintessential trapo, who would do everything to gain power. His presidency courts political disaster because he could never unify the country. In short, a Binay presidency is bad for the country’s political health.
