A BOOK OF NO COMPARISON - THE BIBLE AND BIBLE THEOLOGY. The Bible is the book for today. It is God’s own Book. It is His perfect revelation to man. It is His own very voice speaking to each one of us today as ever. It is a book for every age, for every clime, for every class, for every condition – high and low, rich and poor, learned and unlearned, old and young. It speaks in a language so simple that a child can understand it, and yet so profound that the most gigantic intellect cannot exhaust it. Moreover, it speaks right home to the heart; it touches the deepest springs of our moral being; it goes down to the hidden roots of thought and feeling in the soul; it judges us thoroughly. In summary, it is as the inspired pen apostle puts it, “..Quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and to the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12). If you make comparison of any book of the Bible say in the Pentateuch with any writing of about three thousand years ago, if you could lay your hand on such a book, you will find a curious relic of antiquity – something to be placed in a museum side by side with the Egyptian mummy, having no application whatever to us or to our time – a musty document – a piece of obsolete writing, practically useless to us, referring only to a state of society and to a condition of things long since passed away and buried in oblivion. This is the only book that judge’s man, judges his ways, and judges his heart. It tells man the truth about himself. Hence, man does not like this Book, the Book of God. The Book that the Word in it, became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory as of the only Begotten of the Father. Infidels in every age and every class have labored hard and are still laboring to find out flaws and contradictions in this Holy Book. This same book “WORD” that became flesh while among us as the “living Word” was the subject and object of attack by men who differ in everything but find pleasure and point of agreement only in the attack of this ‘Sacred Word’ made flesh. Other people were allowed passage and to have their say, but Jesus was always being observed for a point of contradiction that will give them edge to hand Him to the rulers for prosecution. When Jesus was crucified in-between two malefactors, these malefactors were let alone; there were no insults heaped on them, the chief priests and the elders did not wag their heads at them. No, all the insults, the mockery, the coarse and heartless vulgarity was heaped upon the Divine occupant of the centre Cross – Jesus. Whether it is the Living Word or the written Word, we can well able understand the opposition to it as the Word of God. The devil hates the Word of God in whatever form it is. The devil hates the Word of God with a perfect hatred; hence he employs learned infidels to write books to prove that the Bible or the Man Jesus is not the Word of God, that it cannot be, in as much as there are mistakes and discrepancies in it; and not only so, but in the Old Testament, we find laws and institutions, habits and practices unworthy of a gracious and benevolent Being. To all these style of argument, we have one brief and pointed reply. Of all these learned infidels, we simply say, they know nothing whatever about the matter of the Bible. To all that are bereft of the full biblically based and sound theological education, they know nothing of the Book of the Bible and the Person of the Living Word. They may be learned, very clever, very deep and original thinkers, well made up in general literature, very competent to give an opinion on any subject within the domain of natural and moral philosophy, very able to discuss any scientific question; moreover, they may be very amiable in private life, truly estimable characters, kind, benevolent, philanthropic, beloved in private and respected in public, all this they may be, but being unconverted, and having not the Spirit of God, they are wholly unfit, much less to give, a judgment on the subject of the Holy Word – the Bible. If any one wholly unlearned in the subject of astronomy were to presume to sit in judgment on the principles of Copernican system, these very learned men will at once pronounce him utterly incompetent to speak, and unworthy to be heard on such a subject. In short, no one has any right whatever to offer an opinion on a matter with which he is unacquainted. This is an admitted principle on all hands; and therefore its application in the case of Bible Theology and the Living Word cannot justly be called to question. If you are not theologically sound in the Bible theology education, you have no business talking about the Bible let alone leading a congregation of believers in the Living Word. You must know the written Word before the Living Word period. Otherwise, you will be full of photocopies and stereotyped ideas which culminate in your being a fake and a deceiver – for no one gives out what he does not have. Would you think of listening to a blind man on the subject of light and shade? Would you think of listing and obeying instructions issued by a deaf and dumb person in a loud speaker on sounds and symphonies? Such it is in the case of human learning, however extensive and varied; human wisdom, however profound, cannot qualify a man to form judgment of the Word of God. Holy Spirit has been wrongly employed in the present Christian dispensation. Only studies in the Holy Writ will open us up to the understanding of the Person, purpose and function of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, study to show yourself approved to God, a worker that does not need to be ashamed because you are qualified to speak and teach that which you were approved by God among men, where you are required to rightly divide the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Bear in mind that references made about infidels here are unfortunately those that call themselves Christians and yet hate Theological Education and Bible Theology. I am not referring to those who do not have any thing to do with the Divine Writ, but those who wrongly handle it no matter how large the followership is which of course is the broad way that the Divine Living Word referred to in the gospels. Those unlearned and unapproved bunch in the sit of Divine Chair should watch out. It was the Pharisees that persecuted the Living Word, and so it is now that the professors of the Living Word are attacking the effective study of the Written Word that was referred to by the Living Word to be searched for in it He will be found.
