...............A Back Home Story................... I have debated and thought on whether I should post this or not. but it is all true and no one is alive now that was involved in it........My oldest Brother, Ernest was about 17 when this happened, so it was about 1937......there was a place where Bell Ave. and a side street which had no name, intersected and there was a street light on that corner...water from a small stream ran thru a channel that was concreted over and you could sit on that concrete and loaf on that corner...the house at that corner was owned by a St. John family and Ernest and his buddy Roy Barker were hanging out there one night wondering what mischief they could get into...that house had a wrap-around porch that went around the front and all the way down the side of the house....the side porch went a good distance from the street light and it was dark at the end of the porch....A light came on in the bathroom of the house and Ernest & Roy wanted to window-peep in there as there was a pretty daughter of the owner and so they peeked in and she was getting ready to take a bath.....there were some bushes at the end of the porch and very close to the porch, so in a few minutes, the porch light came on, and the daughters dad apparently had to go and the bathroom was taken, so he, not knowing anyone was on his porch, came out to relieve himself..he started down the side porch so the street light would not shine on him and Ernest & Roy jumped off the porch and hid in the bushes....The Dad went all the way to the end of the porch and started watering in the bushes, not knowing anyone was in there......Ernest & Roy had to hunker down and take a good spraying and the Dad went back inside and never knew anyone was in the bushes as it was dark and Ernest & Roy said they thought he would never get finished, as he was drowning them.......they had to hurry home and get cleaned up..guess they learned a lesson about window-peeking................
