A Brief Review: The Great Beauty: This sublime masterpiece follows epicurean Jep Gambardella, a 65 year old high society cultural critic, through a walk of Rome and much of its decadence. Jep, a lothario, who’s sensibilities allow him a sort of reluctant honesty, reflects on his life and the world around him; Rome. Jep is delightful to watch, his sartorial sagacity would have us all reconsidering our wardrobes. He wears bright colored jackets along with flamboyant accessories, with a demeanor that serves as a reducer to what would seem rather conspicuously extravagant. The allure of this film’s beauty lies in its dialogue. The intense, sans overbearing, exchange between the characters are honest, deep and transforming. Each character carefully considering the next step in this dance called life. Jep is the dance instructor. The Great Beauty won Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards. See it
