A Broken Face Of Sadness a First Friday Exhibit Winnipeg, Manitoba – October 3, 2014 – Artist Wanda Luna will be unveiling her new series “A Broken Face Of Sadness” for a First Friday exhibition at the Warehouse Artworks on 222 McDermot Avenue. Wanda Luna in an interdisciplinary indigenous artist, curator, writer and community activist who draws on multiple inspirations to create a wide variety of artistic productions. Born in Chile, Luna eventually moved to Canada and, while continuing to travel extensively, she currently resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Working primarily in paint and ink, Luna is currently looking to expand her practice into installation. Wanda Lunas series “A Broken Face of Sadness – featuring her signature lone cello in bright, primary colors and touches on significant themes of Chilean culture. Symbols of ancient rites and syncretism, ideals, resistance, joy, color, carnival, religion and pebre themes portraying the many layers of Chilean society. About Artist Wanda Luna: Wanda Luna lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Luna’s community work extends to both her artistic and curatorial endeavors. The artist is devoted to community education and activism. For example, Luna was the director and curator of a gallery, called Estudio Luna, in Winnipeg that was focused on producing artist talks, exhibitions and performances that were accessible to a wide range of communities. Luna is dedicated to providing community art education as well as spaces that allow for both emerging and established artists to interact with communities. Currently, Luna is working on the Dream Room Project, which seeks to provide children suffering from life-threatening illnesses with the opportunity to work with artists to decorate their rooms with original and creative ways.
