A Burmese family friend invited us to a soon kway house blessing - TopicsExpress

A Burmese family friend invited us to a soon kway house blessing ceremony, in which Theravada Buddhist monks visit a house to present discourses and perform chantings for the host family and their assembled guests. As part of the ceremony, a food offering is made to the monks either before or after the discourse/chanting, thought the food must be served by 11 AM as the monks should finish their meal by noon. After the monks have finished, the family and guests then get to partake in the offered food, which is most often home cooked and of the highest quality, as the donating cooks want to offer their very best dishes to the monks. The photos show the majority of what was in the days offering menu, which almost all was cooked by one very talented Burmese woman, and her food was indeed outstanding!
