A CALL TO ACTION! Are you like I am? Wait, don’t incriminate - TopicsExpress

A CALL TO ACTION! Are you like I am? Wait, don’t incriminate yourself… Here I am worrying that Big Lots or the U.S Postal Service may snoop into my Facebook account and deny me the $11.00 hour Sales Associate or Clerk position I am so desperate to get. Spying on Facebook or peeking into my Linkedin account completely disregards thirty-five years of work experience just because I know Penny Johnson. I said out loud to the cats, “ENOUGH ALREADY”. So, here is my abbreviated story and hopefully many of you can relate and get jazzed and we can all move forward together. I have a bucketload of skills and interests and piles of drawings and ideas. I am just at a point in my life where I need to work full-time and cannot just wait for design work to drop in my lap. Who are all of you? Writers, dancers, painters, architects, interior designers, printmakers, poets, models, actors/actresses, photographers, sculptpeople (new word) or just creative folk yearning to express yourself. Some of you in the creative field are lucky enough to work full-time and others are most likely underemployed like myself. Perhaps you are at a point in your life where you can no longer do what you love full-time on your own. What if we could collaborate using our talents and technology to create whatever we choose and have more control over our destinies? I recently visited Dwell on Design in Los Angeles and spied a huge crowd around Jeff Lewis / BRAVO TV starlet hawking his new paint line where one of his colors had the name “Edamame”. I almost burst a blood vessel thinking “For F**K’S SAKE, CALL IT GREEN and let somebody else have your booth space!!!” Sorry Jeff but this lemming like attraction to people who have “branded” themselves and can make a zillion dollars on nothing needs to stop and make way for us! Picture this, a fabulous building designed by one of us with incredible interiors filled with photographs, paintings, sculptures, textiles. At the opening of this masterpiece are poets reading poetry, actors/tresses acting, dancers dancing (and Penny lighting a fire..oh wait that’s my fantasy). Anyway, we may not be able to do it individually but I am damned sure that we can do it collectively. Let’s write a book or build a building or make a movie. It is time we stop the making of Charlie’s Angels XXVI, take action and create our future. Anybody with me?
