A CONTRAST: One young woman in the bay was pregnant and had an entitlement mentality. It didnt take her long to throw an attitude toward me and she was being handcuffed and taken to a higher level in the jail. Some people come into jail and they continue to push until the system breaks them or they end up in a cell with the door shut and no outside contact. If they do not humble themselves, the system will come down hard on them. Some, are then changed and humbled. Others continue to be stiff necked and prideful and will not bend, they are usually the career criminals. Another young woman had a visit scheduled. Shes a kid that doesnt have a high intellect. In fact, if it werent for the people she had hung around with, she wouldnt even be in jail. Shes not smart enough to be a malicious criminal, and thats sad. If she were in a different environment, she would flourish. My heart has been touched by her care of other inmates on more than one occaision. I watched her get up and get ready for her visit. I knew that she was full of expectation and then the time came for her visitor to arrive. Five minutes went by and no phone call from down stairs. She went back to her bunk to wait. I went to her after ten minutes. I said, whos coming today to see you? She turned her head toward the wall and started to cry. She couldnt even speak to me because she was so devestated that nobody came. I tried to talk about it on my way home from work and I just wept for her. They can only have immediate family visit. I wish they knew how very hard it is on them when the family says they will come and then dont show up. So we pray for the obnoxious gal who needs to come down off her high horse and get a taste of reality so that she might change. We pray for the lonely one in jail, in a bunk who weeps because she thinks nobody cares who should. A day in the jail..PK
