A Careless Regard for the Truth Mr Ambassador! I refer to the article titled “Russia will defend Ukraine Compatriots”- by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Australia, Mr Vladimir Morozov. Sadly, as seems to be more evident of the information emanating from the Russian Federation, there seems to be a careless regard for the truth both from Mr Morozov and his puppet master, Vladimir Putin. In response to the wayward claims by Mr Morozov: 1. Ukraine & Russia were never part of one country. The USSR was a conglomerate of countries subjugated by Russia. 2. Kyivan Rus was not the beginning of Russian Statehood. It was the precursor to Ukraine. 3. The violent riots were instigated by State led forces against peaceful demonstrators. 4. The “agreement” was NOT signed by Yanukovych. 5. Nobody “ousted” Yanukovych – he fled into the arms of Putin. The Parliament by majority (including members of Yanukovych’s own party) voted to create the new government – completely within their constitutional rights. 6. There was no threat of civil war... It has been proven that the provocateurs were Russian citizens bussed into Ukraine to provoke conflict. 7. Strange that a letter from Yanukovych appears days after his Press Conference – but dated before his Press Conference – yet no mention of such a request was made at his Press Conference nor at Putin’s Press Conference. 8. The slur that Ukrainians are Nazi-orientated is again without foundation – but a continued slander against a people that have disputed Russian rule against their country for decades… Prime Minister Yatseniuk has been in a leadership role in previous governments – yet nothing was said earlier… I have separately attached a letter from Ukrainian Jews to Mr Putin… - it says a lot re such claims… 9. The call by the Ambassador to the Australian government regarding trade relations is hypocrisy at its best – no other country in the world has used the threat to cut off trade more so than Russia in a political manner – we need only to look at the simplistic matter of Roshen company last year and that is but one of many instances… 10. The language issue – strange twist of the fact again – the call made by a Russian speaking demonstrator to the Ambassador was a call that perhaps as the Ambassador to Australia he should take the time to learn another language such as English (as his Press interviews here were conducted in Russian with the help of an interpreter) , to gain a better understanding of the reports being circulated more truthfully than those emanating from the Russian state controlled media & other pro-Russian sources. And finally, I think that we should learn from history. Europe tried to appease Hitler. Putin must now immediately withdraw his forces to their bases and refrain from further provocative and dangerous actions in Crimea and other parts of Ukraine. Putin must receive a strong, swift and unequivocal response to his aggression. Political, diplomatic and economic sanctions on the Putin government by Europe and all G20 countries together with an immediate embrace of Ukraine into all Euro-Atlantic institutions including European Association. Yours faithfully, Jaroslav R Duma OAM
